In this article I would like to show you one of the popular brushpens with which even beginners can quickly create beautiful brush letterings: the Pentel Sign Pen Brush*.
I mainly tested the black pen here

The Pen

The casing of the brushpen is made of plastic and does not look very modern. But the characteristic shape of the pen prevents it from rolling off the table. The pen cap closes with a snap-fit, thus preventing the mine from drying out. In the hand it feels light. Especially for beginners, the Pentel Sign Pen Brush is a good pen because it is cheap and easy to handle. In addition, there is not only black, but a total of 12 intense colors*.

The Nib

You will find at the pen a set in metal brush-like 2mm nib, which is flexible. This makes it easy to draw lines in different thicknesses from 1mm. The material of the nib is acrylic, which prevents fraying. Also, the nib is relatively small. All these features make the Pentel Sign Pen Brush perfect for brush lettering – even in small font size like in a Bullet Journal.

The Ink

The ink is water-based and odorless. This means that the ink on paper can be reactivated with water, i.e. it is water-soluble. This theoretically also makes it possible to blend the colors, but in practice the result is not so nice.

Alcohol markers, on the other hand, can not harm the ink. This can be both a disadvantage and an advantage depending on the use. For example, you can use the ink to “watercolor” or to paint illustrations with alcohol markers. But you can’t go over the lines of an illustration with watercolor or water-based pens. (But you can also draw the lines after coloring).
You should be careful on smooth paper, there the ink is still smudgeable immediately after writing.

When testing ghosting and bleeding, you have to differentiate between the colors. In my tests in a Leuchtturn1917, black had a slightly ghosting through the pages, but it did not bleed. My pink pen, however, had a much stronger ghosting and also bleeded through minimal with too much paint.

Use Option

Due to its properties, the Pentel Sign Pen Brush can be used in almost all areas. It is suitable for drawings and illustrations as well as especially for calligraphy, hand lettering or brush lettering and for bullet journals.

Pentel and the Enviroment

Unfortunately, the pen is not refillable. This is making it a disposable product. But Pentel tries to protect the environment a bit. The Pentel Sign Pens are part of the Pentel Recycology series. This means that some parts of the pen iare made from recycled materials.

Conclusion

This brushpen is easy to handle after a short time of exercise. Especially for brush lettering it is super suitable and delivers good results.
A beginner can definitely grab it.

I hope this review helped you getting a picture of the Pentel Sign Pen Brush*. You can look forward to more reviews on this blog.
